About Prayaas

“A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step” – Laozi

In 2003, a group of IIM A students piloted a project as part of the curriculum requirements of a course conducted by Prof. Anil K Gupta called ISPE (Indian Social and Political Environment). The project, titled Prayaas, aimed to provide quality education and a wholesome childhood to socially unprivileged kids living in slums around IIM A. Eight years hence, Prayaas has not only sustained itself with every passing batch but has impacted the lives of hundreds of kids and IIM A students.

These kids are admitted in nearby public schools (Sahajanand Primary School and Sharda Primary School). Besides attending regular classes in the day, kids attend supplementing evening classes held at Dorm-20 common room. This is where kids not only interact with IIM A fraternity but also receive active help with their homework and exams preparation. Apart from this, these kids also participate in activities such as painting, dance, crafts, etc. ensuring a well-rounded education.

At Prayaas, the IIM A community helps these kids to take their first step towards a meaningful education, a joyous childhood and a better future.

At Prayaas, we hope that someday these kids be able to make it to this side of the red bricks.

Prayaas is being run from the IIM Ahmedabad campus.
